Ghana cocoa farmers warn bumper harvest threatened by payment delays

Ghanaian cocoa farmers warned that prolonged payment delays could undermine an otherwise promising harvest season. Benefiting from favourable rainfall and improved crop conditions, many farmers reported strong yields and healthy production prospects. However, delayed payments have left growers without sufficient working capital to hire labour, transport beans, or cover harvesting expenses. Some farmers indicated that delays stretching up to six months had severely constrained their operations despite the positive production outlook. Farmers argued that without timely access to funds, the benefits of improved weather and higher yields could be lost.
