FARMER OPTIMISM ABOUT 2025/26 HARVEST

Cocoa farmers across Ghana are anticipating a strong 2025/26 harvest, encouraged by favourable weather, improved flowering, and healthy pod development after several difficult seasons. Farmers in key producing regions such as Assin North and Tano report noticeable improvements in plant health and yields, with some expecting production increases of more than 50 percent compared to the previous year. Theophilus Tamakloe, Vice President of a national farmers’ association, noted that growers who have remained committed to their farms are poised for a bumper harvest. Similarly, farmer Salomey Saah is targeting 2,000 bags, double her previous output, while 2024 National Best Cocoa Farmer Kwame Alex aims for 3,000 bags. Despite this optimism, concerns remain over irregular pesticide distribution, pest infestations, and the threat of excessive rainfall. COCOBOD has yet to announce its official production target for the new season, though last season’s output fell to around 590,000 metric tons.
