Cocobod Announces Cocoa Producer Price Adjustment: Progress Amid Complex Realities

Ghana has revised the cocoa producer price for the 2025/26 crop season to USD5,040 per tonne, marking a 62.6 percent increase from the previous USD3,100. Announced by the Minister for Finance and Chairman of the Producer Price Review Committee, the adjustment raises farmers’ share of the Free On Board price to 70 percent, a clear commitment to fairer value distribution. In local terms, the new rate equals GHS51,660 per tonne or GHS3,228.75 per 64-kilogram bag. While this improvement aligns with higher global prices, the appreciation of the cedi has reduced the overall cedi-equivalent gains to farmers. To enhance productivity, government will provide free fertilisers, insecticides, and spraying equipment under a renewed input support programme. COCOBOD will also roll out a traceability system to ensure compliance with international sustainability standards and introduce a tertiary scholarship scheme for farmers’ children.
